Paradigm itself employs 250 people. The total number of new or sustained jobs in the Paradigm team directly associated with the Skynet 5 programme peaked at about 1,900 in 2004.
The contract amendment for the 3rd satellite, Skynet 5C, is providing additional work for up to 350 space engineering specialists within Astrium UK alone until 2009, so maintaining the UK’s special high technology expertise in the building of satellites.
The UK space industry in total helps to support almost 70,000 jobs and is worth nearly £7bn annually through direct and indirect contributions.
